Improper authentication in NEC Aterm router firmware allows remote attackers on the LAN to access Telnet with guessed credentials. The Telnet service uses a default identifier and password for a specific function that can be guessed; their derivation is not public. An attacker must first reach the router from its LAN; successful login exposes Telnet, while root-shell execution requires interaction with other documented flaws.
