Account takeover via email-based password and MFA resets

Published Jun 17, 2026 · Updated Jun 17, 2026

Authentication bypass in vantage6 before 5.0.0 allows attackers with access to a user's email account to take over that account. The password-recovery flow resets the password by email, and the separate MFA-recovery flow also sends its reset through the same email channel. Control of the registered mailbox is required; completing both resets removes the independent TOTP factor and grants the compromised user's permissions.
