CVE-2024-27921Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Arbitrary file overwrite via upload path traversal

Published Mar 21, 2024 · Updated Apr 10, 2025

Path traversal in Grav before 1.7.45 allows remote authenticated users to overwrite server files through crafted media uploads. The MediaUploadTrait::checkFileMetadata path accepts a caller-supplied name whose parent directories survive validation because Utils::checkFilename does not reject '..' sequences. Exploitation requires Admin login and Page Update permission; overwritten JSON, ZIP, or CSS files can compromise integrity or disclose data, while code execution requires a later Composer command.
