CVE-2024-27903

Arbitrary code execution via untrusted plug-in paths

Published Jul 8, 2024 · Updated Aug 23, 2024

Untrusted plug-in loading in OpenVPN 2.6.9 and earlier on Windows allows attackers to execute arbitrary plug-in code. The Windows plug-in loader accepts configured DLL paths from any directory, including relative, absolute, and UNC locations, without requiring a trusted installation, system, or registry-defined path. An OpenVPN Administrator must arrange plug-in loading; code execution remains in the OpenVPN process unless chained with the separate interactive-service flaw.
