App termination via CoreMedia out-of-bounds write
Published Jul 29, 2024 · Updated Apr 2, 2026
An out-of-bounds write in CoreMedia in Apple iOS, iPadOS, and macOS allows attackers to terminate an app via a malicious video file. CoreMedia writes beyond an allocated buffer while parsing insufficiently validated video input; Apple has not disclosed a narrower parser or routine. Exploitation requires a user to process the file and affects iOS and iPadOS before 16.7.9 or 17.6 and macOS Monterey before 12.7.6, Ventura before 13.6.8, or Sonoma before 14.6.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
