CVE-2024-27628Network attack vector

Code execution via unchecked Enhanced CT dimensions

Published Jun 28, 2024 · Updated Aug 2, 2024

Buffer overflow in DCMTK 3.6.8 allows remote authenticated users to execute arbitrary code through attacker-controlled Enhanced CT dimensions. EctEnhancedCT::WriteVisitor multiplies 16-bit row and column values as an int and copies unvalidated frame bytes with memcpy, allowing the allocation calculation to overflow. Exploitation requires control of the dimensions and frame pixel data passed by a calling application, and the resulting out-of-bounds access can corrupt process memory.
