SYSTEM escalation via privileged arbitrary file deletion
Published May 10, 2024 · Updated Aug 27, 2024
Privilege escalation in Plantronics Hub 3.25.1 and earlier allows local users to execute arbitrary code as Windows SYSTEM through its updater. The SYSTEM service deletes a user-supplied MajorUpgrade.config file after processing it, permitting an Object Manager symbolic-link redirect into Config.Msi. Exploitation requires a low-privileged local session and a successful race, after which attacker-controlled rollback data runs with full system privileges.
