CVE-2024-2746

Service interruption via unsafe reposdir override

Published May 8, 2024 · Updated Aug 12, 2024

Improper input validation in Fedora dnf5daemon-server 5.1.16 allows local users to crash or hang the service through a crafted reposdir. The pre-Polkit D-Bus override whitelist accepts reposdir, and libdnf5 follows replaceable symlinks between checking .repo entries and opening them. An unprivileged local user controlling that directory can redirect the privileged daemon to a FIFO or unbounded file, causing a hang or memory-exhaustion crash.
