Kernel memory disclosure and corruption via mesh transition
Published May 17, 2024 · Updated Aug 5, 2026
Type confusion in the Linux kernel nl80211 interface allows local users to disclose and corrupt kernel memory through crafted netlink requests. A simultaneous mesh-ID and interface-type update overwrites the active member of wdev->u, leaving an attacker-controlled SSID length for unchecked copies. A low-privileged user can obtain namespace-scoped CAP_NET_ADMIN, and triggering the flaw can expose adjacent heap data, corrupt kernel objects, or panic the host.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
