Privilege escalation via unsafe GTP context traversal
Published May 9, 2024 · Updated Aug 5, 2026
A use-after-free in the Linux kernel GTP link teardown path allows local users to gain elevated privileges by deleting a GTP device. gtp_dellink traverses PDP contexts with hlist_for_each_entry_rcu while call_rcu can complete outside an RCU read-side critical section and free the current context. Reaching the race requires CAP_NET_ADMIN in a network namespace; stale-context reuse can corrupt kernel memory, escalate privileges, or panic the system.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.

Attacks
What attackers are doing with it
Daily unique IPs observed by Shadowserver honeypots for known exploited vulnerabilities (KEVs). Missing observations do not establish an absence of attacks.
Public exploit references
