Shortcode deletion via unchecked AJAX CSRF token
Published Apr 15, 2024 · Updated Mar 20, 2025
Cross-site request forgery in Advanced Search 1.1.6 and earlier allows remote attackers to delete search shortcodes through an administrator's session. The WPAS_Advanced_Search_extra_ajax action accepts ajax_type=delete_search and an arbitrary security value without validating a CSRF token before deleting the selected form. Exploitation requires a logged-in administrator to open attacker-controlled HTML, and the demonstrated consequence is deletion of an existing search shortcode.
