CVE-2024-27388Network attack vector

Unauthenticated kernel crash via GSS decoder cleanup

Published May 1, 2024 · Updated Aug 5, 2026

Memory corruption in the Linux kernel SUNRPC GSS decoder allows remote attackers to crash NFS servers through an RPCSEC_GSS_INIT request. Error paths in gssx_dec_option_array fail to free creds and oa->data after allocation and can leave option state incoherent, causing leaks, dangling pointers, and double frees. The path is reachable before Kerberos authentication only when in-kernel nfsd uses gssproxy; repeated requests can exhaust memory or panic the kernel.
