CVE-2024-27353

SMM privilege escalation via memory corruption

Published May 15, 2024 · Updated Feb 13, 2025

Memory corruption in InsydeH2O SdHost and SdMmcDevice allows local users with high privileges to gain SMM execution. The vendor identifies an untrusted pointer dereference in these firmware components but has not disclosed the faulty operation or input path. Exploitation requires high complexity; successful corruption crosses into SMM, enabling execution beyond operating-system protections.
