Regular expression denial of service in Django 5.0.2 and earlier allows attackers to interrupt service via crafted HTML truncation input. The re_words matcher used by Truncator.words() with html=True and truncatewords_html exhibits catastrophic performance on strings containing long runs of unmatched opening brackets. Exploitation requires an application to pass attacker-controlled text through either affected path, where excessive processing can delay request handling and interrupt service.
