Local privilege escalation via unchecked modem message
Published Mar 11, 2024 · Updated Aug 5, 2024
Out-of-bounds write in Google Android 13 allows local users to escalate privileges through the affected Pixel modem. AtiHandleAPOMsgType in ati_Main.c fails to check for a null value before performing a write, allowing modem message handling to write outside the intended buffer. Exploitation needs local access but no existing execution privileges or user interaction, and it can compromise confidentiality and integrity through elevated privileges.
