Authenticated username overwrite via backend profile ACL
Published Aug 20, 2024 · Updated Aug 22, 2024
Improper access control in Joomla! CMS 4.0.0 through 4.4.6 and 5.0.0 through 5.1.2 allows remote authenticated users to change a username. The backend profile view accepts and persists a supplied username despite the applicable access-control decision; public sources do not identify the responsible function. Administrator-backend access is required, and the documented consequence is limited to overwriting the authenticated account's username.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.
