Code execution via replaceable application-verification key
Published Jun 14, 2024 · Updated Feb 13, 2025
TOCTOU in Toshiba Tec e-STUDIO MFP application installation allows remote authenticated users to execute code through a rogue package. The installer writes MFPAPI_public.key into a world-writable temporary directory, then invokes OpenSSL later, permitting replacement before signature verification. Administrator access and precise timing are required; a substituted key validates an attacker-signed application and runs its code on the device.
