Root code execution via writable snmpd library
Published Jun 14, 2024 · Updated Feb 13, 2025
Privilege escalation in Toshiba Tec e-STUDIO MFP firmware allows local users to execute arbitrary code as root through snmpd. The root-running daemon loads world-writable /home/SYSROM_SRC/lib/libalmibs_impl.so.0 when it starts, so replacing that library runs attacker code with root privileges. Local write access is sufficient; remote compromise requires a separate flaw that uploads the library and forces snmpd to restart.
