Authenticated code execution via unchecked static buffer copy
Published May 21, 2024 · Updated Aug 2, 2024
Static buffer overflow in QNAP QTS 5.1.x and QuTS hero h5.1.x allows remote authenticated users to execute code via a network. The get_tree function in utilRequest.cgi copies attacker-controlled input with strcpy into a fixed-size static buffer without checking its length. A valid NAS account is required, and successful overflow permits code execution on the appliance.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
