CVE-2024-27128Network attack vector

Authenticated code execution via check_email stack overflow

Published May 21, 2024 · Updated Aug 2, 2024

Stack-based buffer overflow in QNAP QTS and QuTS hero 5.1.x allows remote authenticated users to execute code via network requests. The check_email function, reached through the share_file and send_share_mail actions of utilRequest.cgi, copies attacker-controlled input into a stack buffer without checking its length. A valid NAS account is required; successful corruption redirects control flow and runs code in the CGI process context.
