DMA mapping leak via skipped indirect-table unmapping
Published May 1, 2024 · Updated Aug 5, 2026
Resource-management error in Linux kernel 6.6 through 6.8.1 leaves DMA mappings allocated when packed virtio buffers are detached. In detach_buf_packed, a false do_unmap value skips vring_unmap_extra_packed for an indirect descriptor table even though use_dma_api requires release. The path requires use_dma_api and premapped with indirect descriptors; upstream states that no driver uses that combination, so current drivers do not reach the leak.
