Kernel memory corruption via uncanceled rtl8xxxu work
Published May 1, 2024 · Updated Aug 5, 2026
Use-after-free in the rtl8xxxu Wi-Fi driver in Linux allows local users to corrupt kernel memory during device teardown. rtl8xxxu_stop() frees driver state without synchronously canceling c2hcmd_work, so queued work can access the released rtl8xxxu_priv object. Exploitation requires an affected Realtek USB wireless device and a local action that stops or unbinds the driver; the race can disclose or alter kernel memory or crash the system.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
