CVE-2024-27025

Kernel crash via unchecked netlink attribute allocation

Published May 1, 2024 · Updated May 12, 2026

A NULL pointer dereference in Linux kernel NBD status handling allows local users to crash affected systems through a netlink status request. The nbd_genl_status function in drivers/block/nbd.c continues after nla_nest_start_noflag returns NULL, leaving the failed nested attribute for subsequent netlink handling. Reaching the flaw requires low-privileged local access and an allocation failure; the grounded impact is service interruption rather than data disclosure or modification.
