Kernel crash via invalid vmwgfx debugfs entry
Published May 1, 2024 · Updated May 11, 2026
Denial of service in Linux 5.19 through 6.9-rc1 allows local users to crash the kernel by reading a vmwgfx debugfs file. The driver exposes mob_ttm, system_mob_ttm, or gmr_ttm even when its corresponding ttm_resource_manager is unallocated, causing a null-manager dereference. A local account with permission to read the affected debugfs entry can trigger an availability-only crash; no data disclosure or modification is reported.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
