CVE-2024-26927

System crash via malformed SOF manifest lengths

Published Apr 28, 2024 · Updated May 11, 2026

Out-of-bounds access in the Linux kernel SOF IPC3 firmware parser allows local users to crash systems through malformed firmware. The sof_ipc3_fw_parse_ext_man function subtracts untrusted header_size from full_size without validating the result or firmware-buffer bound, allowing parser traversal beyond the supplied manifest. The path requires the SOF driver to load a crafted extended manifest; the grounded consequence is a host crash.
