Local privilege escalation via nft_set_pipapo use-after-free
Published Apr 24, 2024 · Updated Aug 5, 2026
Use-after-free in nft_set_pipapo in Linux 5.6 through 6.9-rc4 allows local users to escalate privileges via crafted nftables batches. A duplicate-key add and delete sequence makes nft_pipapo_remove() unmap the wrong element, leaving a freed element reachable through packet lookup. Local users can obtain namespace-scoped CAP_NET_ADMIN to poison the set; a matching packet can crash the host or enable kernel control-flow hijacking.
