CVE-2024-26891

System hang via stale ATS invalidation retry

Published Apr 17, 2024 · Updated May 12, 2026

Denial of service in affected Linux kernel releases allows local users to hang systems by hot-resetting a PCIe endpoint. During device removal, the Intel VT-d teardown path sends an ATS device-TLB invalidation to the disconnected endpoint and retries indefinitely after an ITE fault. Exploitation requires a hotplug-capable PCIe port, link-control access, and Intel VT-d with ATS; the resulting interrupt-context loop causes a hard lockup and kernel panic.
