CVE-2024-26889

Local system crash via oversized Bluetooth name

Published Apr 17, 2024 · Updated May 23, 2026

A buffer overflow in Linux Bluetooth hci_core in affected kernels allows local users to crash the system through an oversized device name. hci_dev_info copies hdev->name into its fixed eight-byte name field with strcpy, so a longer name writes past the destination buffer. Exploitation requires local low-privileged access; the published assessment limits the consequence to system availability.
