CVE-2024-26816

Kernel-address disclosure via relocated Xen notes

Published Apr 10, 2024 · Updated May 12, 2026

Information disclosure in Linux kernel x86 relocation handling allows local users to read the KASLR base from /sys/kernel/notes. When CONFIG_XEN_PV is enabled, arch/x86/tools/relocs.c relocates .notes entries containing startup_xen, embedding the randomized kernel base in a world-readable file. Local access is required; the disclosure weakens KASLR for follow-on attacks but does not itself modify data or interrupt the system.
