CVE-2024-26798

System crash via incomplete font rollback

Published Apr 4, 2024 · Updated May 23, 2026

Denial of service in the Linux kernel framebuffer console allows local users to crash the system through console font operations. When vc_resize() fails during fbcon_do_set_font(), the failure path restores old font data only for user fonts, leaving internal-font state unrestored for the next font_get() call. Triggering the required allocation failure is difficult without fault injection, and the demonstrated consequence is a kernel page fault and system crash.
