Kernel crash via empty interrupt completion
Published Apr 3, 2024 · Updated May 11, 2026
NULL pointer dereference in the Linux kernel hisi-sfc-v3xx SPI driver from 5.6 allows local users to crash the kernel via an empty interrupt. The hisi_sfc_v3xx_isr handler treats a zero interrupt-status register as handled and calls complete() through an unset completion pointer. The documented failure requires the affected driver and an empty hardware interrupt; no data access or modification is reported.
