CVE-2024-26717

Kernel crash via uninitialized I2C-HID client pointer

Published Apr 3, 2024 · Updated May 11, 2026

NULL pointer dereference in the OF I2C-HID driver in Linux allows local users to crash the kernel during a failed device power-up. The i2c_hid_of_power_up function builds a device pointer from ihid_of->client even though i2c_hid_of_probe never initializes that client field. Reachability requires a system using the OF I2C-HID path and a regulator power-up failure; the resulting NULL dereference interrupts the system.
