CVE-2024-26643

Kernel crash via anonymous-set garbage-collection race

Published Mar 21, 2024 · Updated Aug 5, 2026

Improper locking in Linux nf_tables allows local users to crash affected systems by racing asynchronous set garbage collection. The commit path releases a timed anonymous set while the rhashtable collector can still collect its elements because the set is not marked dead before unbinding. Exploitation requires low-privileged local access and manipulation of timed anonymous nftables sets; the reported consequence is a kernel crash, not data disclosure or modification.
