CVE-2024-26590

Kernel crash via unchecked per-inode compression algorithm

Published Feb 22, 2024 · Updated May 11, 2026

A NULL pointer dereference in Linux EROFS allows local users to crash an affected kernel by processing a crafted filesystem image. The m_algorithmformat path accepts an inode compression algorithm without checking sbi->available_compr_algs, so an unavailable decompressor is dereferenced. Exploitation requires low-privileged local access to supply the inconsistent EROFS image; the resulting impact is a kernel crash and service interruption.
