CVE-2024-2658

Local privilege escalation via OpenSSL configuration loading

Published Jan 30, 2025 · Updated Jan 30, 2025

Uncontrolled search path in Revenera FlexNet Publisher before 2024 R1 allows local users to execute code with service privileges. lmadmin.exe asks OpenSSL to load its configuration from a directory that does not exist, allowing an attacker to create that path and supply a crafted openssl.conf that loads a malicious DLL. Exploitation requires locally authenticated low-privileged access and runs the DLL in the service account's elevated context.
