Attacker-controlled file hosting via unvalidated avatar upload
Published Feb 22, 2024 · Updated Apr 22, 2025
Unrestricted file upload in Kirby CMS allows remote authenticated users to host attacker-controlled non-image files as avatars. The backend avatar handler accepts the supplied extension and MIME type without verifying that the upload is an image, then stores it as profile with that extension. Exploitation requires Panel access and another person to follow a shared direct link; executable PHP and HTML uploads are blocked, so the vendor reports no remote code execution.
