Account takeover via forged password reset links
Published Feb 27, 2024 · Updated Aug 28, 2024
Host header injection in FullStackHero .NET Web API Boilerplate 1.0.0 and 1.0.1 allows remote attackers to leak password reset tokens. The forgot-password handler trusts the request Host header when composing the reset URL sent by email, allowing an attacker-controlled domain to replace the legitimate host. The request needs no authentication, but disclosure requires the account owner to follow the forged link; the captured token permits an account password reset.
