CVE-2024-2617Network attack vector

Authenticated unsigned firmware installation via inconsistent secure-update enforcement

Published Apr 30, 2024 · Updated Mar 4, 2026

Secure-update bypass in Hitachi Energy RTU500 Series CMU Firmware allows remote authenticated users to install unsigned firmware. The RTU500 web server accepts an unsigned firmware update when secure update is not enabled on every CMU in the same RTU500. Exploitation requires an authenticated, authorized user with high privileges and a mixed CMU configuration, allowing untrusted device code to replace signed firmware.
