CVE-2024-26150Network attack vector

Arbitrary file access via symlink path traversal

Published Feb 23, 2024 · Updated Aug 1, 2024

Path traversal in Backstage backend-common before 0.19.10, 0.20.0 through 0.20.1, and 0.21.0 allows remote authenticated users to access files. resolveSafeChildPath canonicalizes the base for its containment check but joins the requested child to the unresolved base, letting a base-directory symlink redirect the returned path outside the allowed tree. Exploitation requires symlink injection and a reachable utility caller; that caller determines whether redirected access reads or writes files.
