CVE-2024-26143Network attack vector

Cross-site scripting via unescaped translation defaults

Published Feb 27, 2024 · Updated Feb 13, 2025

Cross-site scripting in Action Controller in Ruby on Rails 7.0.0 through 7.0.8 and 7.1.0 through 7.1.3 allows remote attackers to inject script. The controller translate helper passes an unescaped string supplied through the default option to HtmlSafeTranslation when the key ends in _html, causing the result to be treated as safe HTML. Exploitation requires an application to use the controller helper with an _html key and an untrusted default, then render the result to a victim.
