CVE-2024-2609Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Unauthorized protocol-handler launch via expired background prompt delay

Published Mar 19, 2024 · Updated Mar 14, 2025

Clickjacking in affected Mozilla Firefox and Thunderbird releases allows remote attackers to trick users into approving external protocol launches. The shared PromptUtils enable-delay helper starts its timer while the prompt window is inactive, enabling the button before the obscured dialog receives focus. Exploitation requires user interaction with a malicious website; Firefox before 124, Firefox ESR before 115.10, and Thunderbird before 115.10 are affected.
