CVE-2024-25993

Local privilege escalation via unchecked trip-counter reset

Published Mar 11, 2024 · Updated Aug 15, 2024

An out-of-bounds write in tmu_reset_tmu_trip_counter in Google Android 13 allows local users to elevate privileges. The function resets a thermal-management-unit trip counter without validating bounds before performing the write, allowing memory corruption. Local code execution is required, but no additional execution privileges or user interaction is needed; successful exploitation grants higher privileges.
