CVE-2024-25977Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Account takeover via retained attacker-chosen session token

Published May 29, 2024 · Updated Feb 13, 2025

Session fixation in HAWKI before commit 146967f allows remote attackers to take over a user's account through a fixed PHP session ID. The login and logout paths retain an attacker-chosen PHPSESSID instead of replacing it when authentication state changes. Exploitation requires placing the chosen token in a victim's browser and inducing that victim to authenticate, after which the attacker reuses the authenticated session.
