Authenticated file overwrite via unsanitized vote filename
Published May 29, 2024 · Updated Feb 13, 2025
Path traversal in HAWKI before commit 146967f allows remote authenticated users to overwrite webserver-writable files via voting requests. The upvote.php and downvote.php handlers treat the raw POST body as a feedback filename and pass its relative path to file_put_contents without restricting traversal segments. A valid session is required, and the attacker selects the destination but cannot control the JSON content written.
