CVE-2024-25942

Physical SMRAM writes via unverified SMM buffer

Published Mar 19, 2024 · Updated Aug 12, 2024

Improper SMM buffer verification in Dell PowerEdge BIOS allows physically proximate attackers with high privileges to write arbitrary data to SMRAM. The BIOS fails to validate an SMM communication buffer before using its contents for a write into protected System Management RAM. Exploitation requires physical access, high privileges, and high attack complexity; Dell has not disclosed the affected SMI handler or controllable buffer fields.
