Account enumeration via conditional Telnet password prompt
Published Mar 27, 2024 · Updated Nov 4, 2025
Account enumeration in WyreStorm Apollo VX20 before 1.3.58 allows remote attackers to identify valid usernames via Telnet. The Telnet service requests a password only after receiving a valid username, so its response distinguishes registered accounts from invalid names. Unauthenticated network access to TCP port 23 is sufficient to enumerate accounts; the disclosed consequence is username exposure that can focus later password guessing.
