User redirection via Unicode replacement character bypass
Published Feb 20, 2024 · Updated Aug 1, 2024
Open redirect in Liferay Portal 7.2.0 through 7.4.3.18 and affected Liferay DXP releases allows remote attackers to redirect users. HtmlUtil.escapeRedirect passes URLs containing U+FFFD into URI parsing instead of rejecting the unmappable character, allowing crafted redirect destinations to evade host validation. Exploitation requires a user to open a crafted Liferay URL; the resulting redirect can send that user to an attacker-controlled external site.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
