CVE-2024-25607Network attack vector

Password cracking via low PBKDF2 work factor

Published Feb 20, 2024 · Updated Aug 1, 2024

Weak password hashing in affected Liferay Portal and Liferay DXP releases allows attackers to crack captured password hashes. The passwords.encryption.algorithm default selects PBKDF2-HMAC-SHA1 with an iteration count that performs too little work against offline guessing. Exploitation requires prior access to stored hashes; cracked passwords expose account credentials and can enable account impersonation.
