Administrator access via stale deleted-user privilege entry
Published Mar 26, 2024 · Updated Nov 11, 2025
Privilege escalation in Ignite Realtime Openfire before 4.8.1 allows remote attackers to inherit deleted administrators' access. AdminManager leaves a deleted administrator's username in admin.authorizedJIDs because user deletion never calls removeAdminAccount(). Exploitation requires account registration and an exact match to a formerly privileged username; the resulting account can enter the administration console.
