SYSTEM code execution via temporary-file race
Published Apr 11, 2024 · Updated Mar 13, 2025
Local privilege escalation in Thesycon TUSBAudio installers after 5.40.0 and before 5.68.0 allows local users to execute code as SYSTEM. The installer copies tlsetupfx.exe into the local user's temporary directory and launches it with SYSTEM privileges during /fa repair, creating a race in which DLLs can be replaced before loading. A low-privileged local user must trigger MSI repair and win the race; success provides SYSTEM-level code execution.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
